Data formats for the translation (in order of preference):

1. Editing files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign, FrameMaker);
2. PDF;
3. Scanned file (resolution 300 dpi);
4. Fax;
5. Printed copy

The most convenient formats for you and Translation Department are the so-called “open formats” like .doc, .rtf, or .html as they don’t require any further data extraction, usage of OCR programs etc.

If a customer receives the first translation of a standard file it is highly advisable to create a document template. Suppose a company updates its model range – then the new equipment manual requires only partial amendments. For example, one and the same chapter on safety may only differ in the title of a new model, but the content will remain unchanged. Once you got a document template you won’t have to translate the whole document anew, even if you decide to start working with another translation agency. When you place the order be sure to mention the data format you want to get in the end.
